Acclaimed Canadian director, Norman Jewison has passed away at the age of 97. Jewison's filmography was wide ranging. From social dramas like In the Heat of the Night and The Hurricane to romantic comedies like Moonstruck to musicals like Fiddler on the Roof and Jesus Christ Superstar.
Jewison graduated from the University of Toronto with a BA in 1949. Jewison and his wife, Margaret have been staunch supporters of the next generation of film scholars. Since 1985, they have provided an annual award, the Norman Jewison Fellowship in Film Studies to outstanding students graduating from the Cinema Studies program and proceeding to do further study in film.
Jewison will be remembered by Cinema Studies students for his inspiring work as well as his generous contributions to their futures.
