Join us for an engaging roundtable-style event featuring 4 speakers from various departments within the production side of the film industry. This event is designed specifically for students, offering a unique opportunity to hear from up-and-coming professionals who are navigating the same industry you aspire to enter.

Our speakers bring fresh perspectives on the ever-evolving world of film production, sharing insights on the challenges, opportunities, and creative decisions they face. By inviting young professionals, we aim to create a space where their recent experiences resonate closely with your own academic journey and career ambitions. They’ve been in your shoes, and their stories will provide relatable guidance and inspiration as you take your next steps toward a career in film.

Daniel Youssefi, a York University alumnus, is an award-winning creative director and cinematographer who has freelanced since 2020. His work includes short films, music videos, and commercial projects.

Johnny Chau is a Chinese-Canadian location sound mixer based in Toronto. Johnny is a graduate of York University’s Film Production undergrad program. His work spans across different genres and scales in the industry, including narrative shorts and features to documentary and commercial productions. Johnny’s work has been a part of many festival screenings such as TIFF, Reel Asian, VAFF and internationally including SXSW Sydney and BFI London.

Emma Cheuk is an actor, writer, and director. She is a TIFF Next Wave Committee alumna and a Reelworld Screen Institute Emerging 20 Screenwriter. In 2022, co-wrote, directed, and starred in her first short film, Late Bloomer, which premiered at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival and screened at the TIFF Next Wave Film Festival’s Young Creators Showcase. She is currently working on her first feature film.

Evan LaMontagne: l am a queer Canadian Art Director living and working in Toronto. I have gained industry experience by working as additional crew on a Warner Bros and HBO show titled "It: Welcome to Derry", as well as "Beacon 23" for MGM+ and Boat Rocker Media. Additionally I was a Wardrobe Production Assistant on "Beast Games". This experience allowed me to understand the professional practices in the industry and make connections, ultimately leading me to work as Art Director on projects such as "Misprint", "Chemistry," "Threadbare", and "All In Jest" as well as commercials for Brar's, Fido, and Rogers.

This event is an invaluable opportunity to learn, ask questions, and gain practical advice from individuals who are forging their paths in the industry right now. Whether you're interested in directing, producing, cinematography, or any production-related field, this discussion will help you understand the current landscape of film production and how to break into it.

See you there!
