CINSSU Free Friday Films: A Brighter Summer Day
When and Where
Description
The Cinema Studies Student Union (CINSSU) have planned a program of Free Friday Films over the summer, though not all of the films will screen on a Friday.
A Brighter Summer Day is a 1991 Taiwanese epic teen crime drama film directed by Edward Yang, associated with the "New Taiwanese Cinema." The English title is derived from the lyrics of Elvis Presley's "Are You Lonesome Tonight?". Set in the late 1950s and early 1960s, the film centers on Xiao Si’r (Chang Chen), a boy from a middle-class home who veers into juvenile delinquency.
The screening is free of charge and open to both University and community members. Masking required of all attendees. Please note that because of the film's four hour running time, this screening will start at 5pm.
